Dear Delegates,

We, the committee presidents are overjoyed to welcome you in the MEP family. Vivid discussions, interesting people, the beautiful city of Vienna and unforgettable moments are awaiting you.

You are part of the committee on Employment and Social Affairs. In light of this committee session, we will be addressing the pressing issue of youth unemployment within the EU which poses a great threat to our economy and future. The concrete questions that we will be discussing are:

Which measures can the EU take to stimulate the participation of young people in the labour market – or should fighting unemployment be considered a national responsibility?

We all recall the devastation caused by the 2008 financial crisis which has led to a never before seen youth unemployment rate in the EU. We, the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs have the task of developing concrete plans of action to counter youth unemployment and to guarantee job security of young people in Europe.

We invite you to read and reflect on the issues mentioned above. In order to give you a sense of direction, please have a look at the links listed down below. Don’t hesitate to do your own research in order to feel more comfortable discussing the topic at our session.

Kind regards
