Committee on Regional Development

“The question of the role of cities and urban areas in managing cohesion policy funds in meeting the objectives of Europe 2020”

Dear delegates,

You are probably well aware of the fact that the National MEP Session in Bregenz is only a month away. This means that every one of you needs to start preparing soon, in order for everyone to be able to contribute in equal parts to the resolution on Regional Development.

Many of you have probably never participated at a MEP Session before and are perhaps a bit in the dark. Your goal will be the write the best possible resolution on the given question. This means that you will have to bring up as many arguments and solutions for problems as possible, argue with your colleagues and finally find the right phrasing for your ideas. In the General Assembly you will present your resolution to the other committees and defend it against critics.

Naturally, the best way to avoid too much criticism is to have a well thought-through resolution. To achieve this goal you need excellent preparation and active reflection on the topic which is the following:

Since more than two-thirds of European citizens live in cities, urban areas can play a leading role in intelligent growth. How can their role be strengthened in developing and implementing social, environmental and youth empowerment policies which will contribute to achieving the objectives of the EU 2020 strategy; and how can cities with innovative ideas and concepts be supported in the field of urban development?

We have put together several links that should serve as a good basis for discussion. We would still encourage you to dig deeper and do some research on your own.

We are looking forward to an interesting and productive MEP Session in Bregenz with you!
